Precast concrete walling is arguably one of the most frequently used exterior walling options in South Africa. With prevailing security concerns in the country, it provides a solid, secure first line of perimeter defence and inter-property sub-division making for a practical barrier solution.

Dressed Up for Success – Modernise your Precast Vibracrete Walling

Although attractive in standard grey, precast vibracrete walling may not always fit in with the chosen aesthetic of your home’s exterior or it may not match your business’s corporate colour schemes. Consequently, you may want to modernise the walling using minimalistic DIY projects.

A quick browse on the internet will give you many ideas to dress up your precast vibracrete walling for success. From a few meters alongside a ground-floor flat to lengths of boundary walling surrounding your home or business, there is a solution for every DIY weekend warrior. Let the professionals in walling installation, MFB Walling, tell you how.

You could involve the kids and make it a family affair, a fun activity with your partner, tackle the project as a team-building exercise at work, or simply go it alone. There are a host of ideas to spruce up your precast vibracrete walling:

  • Create templates for the kids to duplicate colourful designs across the length of the surface.
  • Give them creative license on a stretch of their own wall.
  • Create a lush hanging garden, suspending upcycled soft drink bottles filled with shrubs or herbs.
  • Paint the wall in a neutral, earthy tone to match a low-maintenance, succulent plant or desert rockery.
  • Choose a tropical theme with a burst of colour and palm tree leaves to match a waterfall cascading into the pool.
  • The old faithful two-tone (posts one colour, slabs another) will also do perfectly for a minimalistic look.

The ideas are endless and are only inhibited by your imagination, creativity and skill level.

Simple DIY Tips for a Picture-Perfect Product

As with any DIY project, there are a few basic rules you would need to follow to ensure you achieve the desired results. For external walling projects, apply these three simple DIY tips:

  1. Prepare for Perfection: For perfect results, begin at the base. The raw concrete needs to be prepared. Make sure that the wall surface is free of dirt and dust by scrubbing the surface down with a wire brush and watering hose or a high-pressure washer. Once dry, fill any holes, chips or cracks with a concrete patch mixture. Wait until the wall is perfectly dry before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Power in the Primer: First apply a liberal amount of sealant. Allow time to dry and follow with exterior concrete primer. Ensure that all application products are recommended brands. Quality products are always best, especially to increase the drying time and durability. Two applications of each will usually do the trick.
  3. Picture Perfect: Paint away! Remember to opt for quality exterior products. Apply colour liberally. Again, two coats may be necessary. Whether it’s plain or picturesque, we’re sure it will turn out exactly as you imagined. Once completely dry, seal the deal with more quality sealant to ensure that your art remains intact.

Follow all brand instructions on the product tins carefully and methodically to ensure a perfect finish.
